SCHOOL HISTORY
In 1913, the Opheim School was moved to Opheim from the Roanwood Community. Originally, Opheim was in School District #1. However, in May of 1918 a petition was granted to divide District #1. Opheim's School District was then to be known as North County District #9.
Until 1918, Opheim did not have a High School. In August of 1927, Mr. Ira Rush was the architect hired to design the Opheim High School and Elementary for $45,000. On March 16,1928, the Board decided the gym floor was to be laid with rough lumber and the best grade maple with a layer of felt paper between.
In the spring of 1961, construction was under way for the building of an addition onto the school gymnasium. It consisted of a breezeway, music department, shop and hot lunch facilities. A new High School addition was completed in the fall of 1969, and was officially dedicated on May 13, 1970. The Elementary School, which was built in 1927, is still being improved and is in use today.
The gymansium was totally remodeled in the summer of 1993. Along with the floor, the interior of the gym was redone. The old plywood walls were taken down and replaced with sheet-rock. Leith DeWeese, the high school math and art teacher, designed the graphics of the new gym.
